On the 3rd of May, the Microsoft co founder and philanthropist Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates announced their decision to separate. After being married to each other for 27 years, the couple took to social media and announced to be getting a divorce.
The statement released by Bill Gates and Melinda Gates read, “We no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives.”
The Microsoft co founder took to Twitter and posted a tweet which read, “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable people to lead healthy, productive lives.”
However, the duo said they will continue to work together at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They said, “We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
The couple filed a petition for divorce in the King County Superior Court of Seattle, the United States of America (U.S.A.) The spouses asked the court to approve their agreement on division of assets but did not disclose details regarding the same.
The couple was married in 1994 in Hawaii and completed 27 years of togetherness on the 1st January 2021. They have three children named Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe.
