Canada confirmed 1,321 cases of Monkeypox, including 37 cases which are hospitalized.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has confirmed the Monkeypox update on the 10th of September, Saturday.  In addition, the health agency said that of the confirmed cases, 631 cases are from Ontario, 505 from Quebec, 143 from British Columbia, 34 from Alberta, three from Saskatchewan, two from the Yukon and one each from Nova Scotia, Manitoba and New Brunswick.

The Monkeypox infection, which outbroke in 2022, is spreading rapidly across the world.  Approximately 23 countries, including India, are affected by the sudden spread of this disease.  Although experts suggested that the infection would not turn into another pandemic, there are many unknown factors about the disease, including how exactly it’s spreading and its transmission.  As of now, experts suggest the spread of the disease is due to physical touches like hugs, kisses, sexual intercourse and blood transfusion and have a high transmission rate.

The first human case of monkeypox, a simulation of smallpox was reported in 1970.

Common Symptoms of Monkeypox:

  • Headache
  • Acute onset of fever (>38.5oC),
  • Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes)
  • Myalgia (muscle and body aches)
  • Back pain
  • Asthenia (profound weakness)
