Good news to Indian residents, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have announced that permanent residents, including a huge population from India, are eligible to join the Canadian Military.
The announcement came ahead of Remembrance Day, on the 11th of November. However, an official announcement in this regard is expected soon by Canada’s Armed Forces (CAF.)
According to sources, earlier, permanent residents of India or any other nationality living in Canada, were allowed under the Skilled Military Foreign Applicant (SMFA) entry programme.
If sources are to be believed, the Canadian Military is struggling to have new recruits into the armed forces with thousands of vacant posts. The rule was in view of the security issues and clearance.
As of 2021, there were more than eight million immigrants with permanent residency visas, living in Canada, covering 21.5% of the total Canadian population. In the same year, nearly 1,00,000 Indians became permanent residents of Canada.
The Department of National Defence (DND) is expected to make a formal announcement in this regard soon.
