Chinese Ship Sinks In River Yangtze, Hundreds Missing

Beijing: A Chinese ship sank in the river Yangtze during a storm on Monday night. Atleast one person died and 450 others went missing. According to reports, ten people were rescued. About 12 hours after the incident took place, search teams reached the spot. The incident occurred when the four-level ship was travelling from Nanjing upstream to the south-western city of Chongqing in the Hubei province.

The ship’s captain and the chief engineer were rescued and they said that the ship went down after being caught in a cyclone. It is heard that the most of the passengers were 50 to 80 years of age. Heavy rescue operations are underway and the submersible craft had also been deployed. More than 3,000 people and 50 boats were involved in the rescue operation.
