Indian Government Advises Citizens Not To Travel To Iraq

In the wake of the attack in Iraq by the Iranian Government, the Indian Government advised Indian citizens not to travel to Iraq unless absolutely necessary.

In the early hours of the 8th of January, Iran attacked 2 of the United States’ (U.S.,) air bases situated in the Green Zone in western Baghdad.  As per the U.S. military, there were no casualties. However, the attack further heightened the tension between the U.S. and Iran.

Raveesh Kumar, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, took to Twitter and said,  “In view of the prevailing situation in Iraq, Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non essential travel to Iraq until further notification. Indian nationals residing in Iraq are advised to be alert and may avoid travel within Iraq.”

He further mentioned, “Our Embassy in Baghdad and Consulate in Erbil will continue to function normally to provide all services to Indians residing in Iraq.”

Though the situation in Iraq is said to be critical, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said the situation is under control.

Twitter is flooded with posts containing #IranvsUSA #WorldWarIII.
