Ms. Liz Truss has defeated Mr. Rishi Sunak and became the new Prime Minister of Britain (the United Kingdom.)

According to the final round of votes counting, Ms. Liz Truss beat her rival by 81,326 votes to 60,399.  It is to be noted, Ms. Liz Truss polled 81,326 votes, compared to Sunak’s 60,399 in an election with a high turnout of 82.6 per cent, with 654 rejected ballots from a total of 172,437 eligible Tory voters.

After losing against Ms. Liz Truss, the opposition candidate Mr. Rishi Sunak took to Twitter and extended gratitude to all those voted for him.  He also congratulated Ms. Liz Truss for being the next PM Of the United Kingdom.  “I’ve said throughout that the Conservatives are one family. It’s right we now unite behind the new PM, Liz Truss, as she steers the country through difficult times,” said Rishi Sunka in a Twitter post.

Notably, in July, Mr. Boris Johnson submitted his resignation, stepping down as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.  Mr. Boris Johnson was forced to announce his resignation in July after months of scandal and he will travel to Scotland to meet Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday to officially tender his resignation. His successor will follow him and be asked to form a government.  After a summer long internal contest, the results of the votes came on the evening of the 5th of September.

After winning the leadership race, Ms. Liz Truss vowed to press ahead with promises of tax cuts and to deal with a growing energy crisis.  In addition, Ms. Liz Truss has now become the Conservatives’ fourth prime minister since a 2015 election.

In addition, hours after the win of Ms. Liz Truss, Ms. Priti Patelhas decided to resign as the UK Home Secretary and plans not to serve in the cabinet of the newly-elected Prime Minister Liz Truss.

In a letter to outgoing UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Ms Patel wrote, “It is my choice to continue my public service to the country and the Witham constituency from the backbenches, once Liz  Truss formally assumes office and a new Home Secretary is appointed.”
Ms. Liz Truss is soon to take over charge as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
