North Korea Launches Missile, Is This World War III?

On Wednesday, Leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un stated they achieved their goal of becoming a Nuclear State. The “whole mainland of the U.S.” is within range, he added.

The Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Hwasong 15 type weaponry system is an inter continental ballistic rocket tipped with a super large heavy warhead.

The authorities from Japan and South Korea said the Hwasong 15 soared 4,500 Km up in the sky traveling 960 Km. It was airborne for 53 minutes before splashing into waters around 210 Km west of Japan’s Aomori prefecture.

The U.S. based Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) stated the missile could have traveled more than 13,000 Km if it was on a standard trajectory. The missile had a very light mock warhead which meant it was incapable of carrying a nuclear payload. It is impossible to reach “any part of the United States,” UCS added.

“North Korea has always kept the upper hand in diplomacy by tapping into the global community’s fear it could go reckless if pressured too hard which is actually its biggest diplomatic leverage,” the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe said.

North Korea has yet to prove its mastery of the re entry technology required to bring the warhead back to the Earth’s atmosphere.

U.S. experts believe North Korea is still two to three years away from the ultimate goal of being able to deliver a nuclear warhead successfully using an ICBM.

The UN’s Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the launch violated sanctions and showed “complete disregard for the united view of the international community.”

Jim Mattis the U.S. Defence Secretary said, “It went higher frankly than any previous shot they’ve taken, a research and development effort on their part to continue building ballistic missiles that can threaten everywhere in the world, basically.”
