A Pakistan International Airlines plane crash killed 97 people including 8 cabin crew after Flight PK-8303 from Lahore, crashed at the Jinnah Garden area near Model Colony in Malir. The deceased include 31 women and 9 children.
The incident took place around 2:37 P.M., on the 22nd of May, before it was supposed to land in Karachi, Pakistan.
While 87 out of 91 travellers died immediately leaving 2 miraculously alive, 11 people in the nearby area of Model Colony were reported severely injured.
The confirmed report of deceased cases and survived passengers came on the morning of the 23rd of May. Sindh Health Minister Azra Pechuho said, “There are two survivors, including President of the Bank of Punjab Zafar Masood. He called up his mother to inform her of his well being.”
According to the Sindh Health Ministry 19 deceased were identified whereas the remaining are yet to be identified.
Faisal Edhi of the Edhi Welfare Trust reported around 25 to 30 resident’s homes were damaged by the plane crash. Mr. Edhi said, “At least 25 houses have been damaged in this incident.
Though technical difficulties and air traffic control was said to be the reason for the plane crash, confirmed reason is yet to be ascertained.
Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan expressed grief over the tragic incident and loss of lives. He also announced an immediate enquiry into the matter.
In addition, General Qamar Javed Bajwa , the Chief of the Pakistan Army, condoled the 97 deaths and directed the Pakistan military to provide full assistance to the civil administration in rescue and relief efforts.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi also condoled the loss of lives through his official Twitter handle.
Meanwhile an investigation regarding the plane crash has been launched.
