On Thursday, hours after North Korea’s missile test the U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted about his conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. “Additional major sanctions will be imposed on North Korea today,” his tweet stated along with his usual dialogue “this situation will be handled.”

North Korea’s Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Hwasong 15 is said to be the “most powerful” till date. It packs the power to reach “the mainland of the U.S.” claimed North Korea.

The U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley said they never sought a war with North Korea and they do not today. “If a war breaks out, it will be because of continued acts of aggression from North Korea. And if war comes, make no mistake, the North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed,” Nikki Haley added.

She also urged all countries to cut diplomatic and trade ties with North Korea.

Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Daniel Davis said they should be careful on the sanctions. “We don’t want to push them too far to where it’s like we did with Japan in World War II with the embargo we placed on them,” he added.

The events leading to Imperial Japan attacking Pearl Harbor in 1941 included the U.S. imposing an economic embargo on Japan. This included a ban on oil and gasoline exports. The then Japanese Government viewed it as an “existential threat” since it was hard to survive without oil. They attacked in an attempt to forestall it.

A verbal conflict arose when the U.S. President Donald Trump described the North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un as “little rocket man” and “sick puppy.”

Kim Jong Un shot back calling President Trump a “frightened dog” and a “gangster fond of playing with fire.”
