A.K. Bassi, a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) officer, filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) and challenged his transfer to Port Blair, Andaman, on Tuesday.

According to sources, A.K. Bassi filed a petition in the Supreme Court and challenged the transfer order. Asthana further asked for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the accusations of bribery against Rakesh Asthana, the former CBI Special Director. In the petition, Asthana also claimed to hold evidence against Rakesh Asthana in the corruption case.

A.K. Bassi, who was the investigative officer in the Rakesh Asthana bribery case, was one of the officers who got transferred immediately by the interim CBI Director M. Nageswar Rao on the 24th of October. The transfers took place after Alok Verma, the former CBI Director, and Rakesh Asthana were sent on leave by the Central Government.

Rakesh Asthana complained and alleged A.K. Bassi of being involved in the same corruption case, along with Alok Verma. In a statement to the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC,) Asthana said that on the direction of Alok Verma, Bassi carried out an inquiry against him. Asthana further said, Bassi was sent to Gujarat to gather evidence material against him.

The SC did not declare when the hearing on A.K. Bassi’s petition will take place.
