On Friday, the Mumbai High Court convicted Preeti Jain for hiring a contract killer in 2005 for the murder of the well known film maker Madhur Bhandarkar.

Preeti Jain has been convicted along with two others for the conspiracy of murder. Jain and one of the convicted have been sentenced to three years of imprisonment, while one has been pronounced for a two year jail term.

The other accused in the case were Naresh Pardeshi and Shivaram Das who have been imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 each along with Preeti Jain. Special Judge S.M. Bhosale, was hearing the case acquitted two years ago for lack of evidence in the case.

Based on the proceedings of the case, Jain approached Pardeshi to kill Bhandarkar and paid him a sum of Rs. 75,000 for the work. Pardeshi is also a known aide of underworld gangster Arun Gawli. In 2004, Jain alleged that the director had raped her and filed a case. This case was struck off by police for no proof and false allegations for fame.

The conspiracy saw the light of day as Jain was asking back for the money as the murder was not carried out according to plan. The police arrested Pardeshi and Jain for a murder attempt and Das for providing weapons and shooters.
