K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, on Monday, directed the Hyderabad Metro Development Authority (HMDA) to launch a green drive in the City.

During a meeting at Pragati Bhavan, KCR had a discussion with B. Janardhan Reddy, the Commissioner of the HMDA. KCR asked Mr. Reddy to come up with a plan to enhance the greenery in Hyderabad.

Mr. Rao said, “Hyderabad should not become a concrete jungle like some of the others Indian cities and people residing here should benefit from the massive plantation program, which will have a positive impact for generations to come.”

In order to improve the maintenance of the greenery in the City, Mr. Rao asked Mr. Reddy to engage the locals and involve them in increasing the green cover in Hyderabad to make the City a sustainable one. Mr. Rao also ordered the HMDA to restore the greenery between Hyderabad and Medak.

During the discussion about a green Hyderabad, KCR also suggested a collaboration between the HMDA and the Forest Department.

The areas KCR suggested for the expansion of greenery were the outskirts of Hyderabad, around the Outer Ring Road.
