The Shiv Sena will contest 25 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh (UP) against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

Sanjay Raut, a leader of the Shiv Sena, on the 21st of January, addressed media in Lucknow and said, “There is no question of any kind of alliance with BJP in UP for Lok Sabha Polls as BJP had broken its electoral pact with Sena in Maharashtra.” He further said, “The Shiv Sena workers are not ready mentally for an alliance with the BJP. It’s difficult for us to convince the party workers, they are disappointed with the BJP. If we try for a re-alignment, then our cadre base will break before the crucial Lok Sabha election.”

The Shiv Sena and the BJP, who formed an alliance for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, will contest individually this year.

Speaking about the differences between both the parties, the BJP and the Shiv Sena, Mr. Raut said, “Although we are a regional party but we have a national appeal and our strategy will be made accordingly for the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls.”

Mr. Raut also shared his strategy of joining hands with the smaller parties in Uttar Pradesh to contest against the BJP.

Madhav Bhandari, the chief spokesperson of the BJP in Maharashtra, said, “We have fought the past Lok Sabha elections together. The situation hasn’t changed.”

The BJP is all set to contest 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. The major parties contesting the Uttar Pradesh elections are the grand alliance of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP,) the Shiv Sena, the Congress party and the BJP.
