Man attempts suicide on MLA Kishan Reddy’s dais

A man attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze when Telangana BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy was addressing a public meeting in Nalgonda on Wednesday. Barisetti Shankar, 25, a resident of Kesarajupally, poured kerosene on his body and set himself ablaze before rushing on to the dais. Shocked by his actions, BJP activists present there tried to douse the fire.
Shankar was then rushed to the Government Hospital. However, due to the absence of doctors at the Government Hospital, he was shifted to a private hospital in Nalgonda. Kishan Reddy too halted his speech and rushed to the hospital and spoke to Shankar. “Shankar attempted suicide as he was unable to tolerate the land encroachments in his village. I feel very sad that this incident took place. He should have approached me instead of taking this drastic step,” said Mr Reddy.
Reddy also asked the government to provide Shankar free treatment. Reddy said the BJP can take care of the treatment, if the state government did not.
