The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Moin Akhtar Qureshi, a meat exporter in connection to money laundering case against him and a few others. The officials reported that Qureshi was arrested late last night after questioning him.
Qureshi was arrested under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and will be presented in court today. The officials also reported Qureshi refused to cooperate in the probe.
The arrest comes after two FIRs were filed against Qureshi in the past under the PMLA.
A statement by ED said the investigation has revealed facts which, “constitute omission and commission of certain acts on the part of certain public servants holding high positions in the public office in collusion with Qureshi, thereby huge amount of illegal money (sic) were found to have been transacted.”
The statement further read, “Qureshi has extorted crores of rupees from a businessman from Hyderabad in lieu of the help provided. He was found involved in hawala transactions through Delhi-based hawala operators.”
The agency managed to catch Qureshi’s underhanded work by analyzing the BBM messages between him and his partners.
