Telangana turns one, witnesses grand celebrations

Hyderabad: India’s youngest state Telangana turned one on Tuesday. Celebrations began with a bang in the state. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao kicked-off the celebrations by paying tributes at the Gun Park in Hyderabad. Then, he unfurled the national flag and took a salute form a parade, held at the Parade Grounds in the city.

A week-long festivities have been planned on a grand scale in all the 10 districts of the state. Celebrations will witness the rich culture and struggle for achieving statehood. Apart from the formation day, the TRS party is also celebrating the success of winning five seats in legislative council elections on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted the people of Telangana. On Twitter, Modi wrote, “My best wishes to the people of Telangana on the occasion of their Statehood Day. My best wishes for the State’s development journey.”

The 29th state of India, Telangana carved out of Andhra Pradesh on June 2, 2014 after a massive struggle in the residual Seemanadhra region. The one year of Telangana was a roller-coaster ride as it had to manage many issues including law and order, ban on few television channels are among others.
