Bollywood actor and National Award winner Akshay Kumar three months ago suggested an idea of a process wherein civilians can donate money to the families of martyrs. This brainchild was in order to help families of Central Parliamentary Forces that get killed on duty.

Akshay Kumar discussed the same with the concerned ministry officials and started working on a tool to aid the process. During the celebrations of CRPF Valour Day, on Sunday, the Home Minister Rajnath Singh alongside Akshay Kumar launched the website ‘bharatkeveer.gov.in’ at the Vigyan Bhawan. Through this website, people can donate as much as Rs. 15 lakh to the families of martyrs.

Akshay Kumar recently donated Rs. 1.09 crores to the 11 families of CRPF jawans killed in Sukma. Addressing the CRPF, CISF, BSF, ITBP, SSB and others, Akshay said, “Today, I am here in between you not as an actor, but as the son of an Army officer.”

The actor also added through his speech, “Our jawans fight them with all their heart and do good work. We need the support of 1.25 billion people to do good work.” He also said that some of the youth of Country get diverted and choose terrorism. But they forget that they have the support of very few civilians.

At the same celebration, Rajnath Singh praised Akshay Kumar and said, “It would not be wrong if I call him `Action Kumar.’ He is a hero for so many, but for him, Army and CAPF jawans are the real heroes.” The minister along with the actor felicitated the brave jawans and the officers of CRPF including those who lost their lives on the field.

Singh said that the government aims at providing at least Rs. 1 crore funds to the family of each martyr. He said, “usually, the compensation amount when somebody was martyred while fighting for the nation varied from Rs. 40 lakhs to Rs. 50 lakhs. We want to make sure that they get Rs. 1 crores. There was some gap in compensation in some states. But we have told (the) states that we (the Centre) will fill that gap.”

The celebrations ended with Singh and Akshay Kumar thanking the jawans of all levels. They also said that the Country will forever be indebted to the soldiers who protect us.
