Dr. Kavrana, Elderly couple suffer burns, ground floor flat in Malabar Hill, Malabar Hill police station, pet dog dies in fire, Pradeep Devkar, sub-inspector

On Thursday, an elderly couple sustained burn injuries and their dog died after a major fire broke out in their ground floor flat in Malabar Hill. The police said 76 years old, Dr. Keku Kavrana is on the ventilator.
The fire officials suspect the reason for the fire could be caused by short circuiting. The combustion was doused nearly 4 hours later.
Dr. Kavrana lives with his wife, Feroza, son and daughter in law in Dilkush building which is situated opposite to Malabar Hill police station. Dr. Kavrana even ran a dispensary from the flat.
Around 4 A.M., Dr. Kavrana’s son and daughter in law woke up to a burning smell and were shocked to see most of their house up in flames. They panicked and rushed out to safety and realized that their aged parents were still trapped inside. The police responded to the emergency as they noticed the fire from across the road, alerted the other residents of the building and told them to run up to the terrace.
The sub-inspector, Pradeep Devkar entered the flat and found Feroza. However, he could not bring her out as he started feeling uneasy after inhaling a lot of smoke. He ran out, grabbed a towel to cover his nose and rushed back in. He then picked up Feroza with the help of two constables and brought her out. Her son rushed her to Breach Candy Hospital.
Soon, the fire brigade too reached the spot. On being informed Dr. Kavrana was still inside the burning flat, the fire officials broke all the windows to let out the smoke and entered through the back door into the kitchen, where they found him unconscious. He too was rushed to the hospital and put on the ventilator, said a police officer.
Firemen found their dog died in one of the bathrooms. The firemen said that all the furniture and the books in the flat were destroyed in the fire.
