Ram Nath Kovind, the NDA’s presidential candidate is all set to file his nomination papers today. The nomination process began at 11:45 A.M.
The BJP President Amit Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several BJP top leaders will accompany the presidential candidate for filing. These leaders are expected to include some of the alliance parties members of NDA. Apart from the three sets of nominations, another set will be filed on last day of filing nominations for Presidential Elections 2017.
These nomination papers were signed by 60 leaders as proposers and 60 leaders as seconders. This means a total of 480 MPs and MLAs have signed the nomination papers of Kovind.
Apart from NDA constituents which are 48.6 percent of electoral college, AIADMK, BJD, TRS, and JD(U) have announced their support to the Dalit leader, Kovind, making his win an imminent conclusion. Kovind, as per reports, already has more than 61 percent of the vote and the final number might increase depending on the regional parties vote.
Some of the opposition parties have shown their support to former Speaker Meira Kumar, who is also a Dalit leader, and selected her as a joint candidate against Kovind. The election is set for July 17 and vote counting will be on July 20.
