On Monday, fresh violence broke out in the valley of Jammu and Kashmir. Abdul Gani Dar of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP,) was shot dead by unidentified assailants. This incident happened amidst the increasing tension between the soldiers and the people of the valley.

Dar, a member of the ruling party in Kashmir, was attacked in the Pinglana area of Srinagar while traveling in his car. The minister has been admitted to the hospital in the Srinagar district and was declared dead upon walking in. This shooting happened hours after the J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti met the Prime Minister to speak about the separatists in the valley.

The CM has briefed Modi about the situation in the valley and the increase of stone pelting, street protests and fights in the State. The protests during bypolls on April 9 was one such incident where 8 people were killed. The leaders of PDP expressed their fear that these incidents of violence are a result of PDP’s alliance with the BJP.

The police said the students were involved in stone pelting even after colleges opened in Kashmir after five days. The authorities have shut colleges after the students started a protest against security forces and their behavior in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. Over the days, the violence has not seen any signs of stopping despite efforts from the military and the ministry.
