On Friday, the civilian and military officials from India and China held their first meeting after the 72 days stand off at Doklam. The two countries met for a discussion in Beijing to review the situation at all sectors of the border.
The Indian Embassy in Beijing released a statement saying the countries agreed maintenance of peace and tranquility near the border areas was an important prerequisite for the growing relations between India and China. The two countries also discussed views on “ further confidence building measures and strengthening of military to military contacts.”
This is the first 10th round of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India China Border Affairs (WMCC) since the stand off at Doklam. During the BRICS Summit in Xiamen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met and decided to move past the stand off and look forward.
The Indian delegation was led by East Asia’s Joint Secretary, Pranay Verma, while the Chinese delegation had Director General Xiao Qian. Along with both the countries’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Military Officials taking part.
