Vijay Shankar, on the 18th of January 2019, made his One Day International (ODI,) debut in the India versus Australia match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG.)

Ravi Shastri, the Coach of the Indian Cricket Team, gave the maiden cap to Shankar, who replaced Mohammed Siraj in the front line up for today’s match. With the ODI debut, Vijay Shankar became the 226th ODI player to play for India.

Shankar, an all rounder player from Tamil Nadu, is a right handed batsman and a medium fast bowler and has played five T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Shankar was introduced in the Indian Cricket Team as a replacement for Hardik Pandya, who was banned from the ODI series. Pandya was banned for his sexiest comments on Karan Johar’s popular chat show, Koffee with Karan.

Apart from the inclusion of Vijay Shankar, the Indian Cricket Team made other changes and added Yuzvendra Chahal and Kedar Jadhav in the place of Kuldeep Yadav and Ambati Rayudu respectively.

A total of 11 Indian players will be playing against the Australian team in today’s ODI match. Team India’s XI are Virat Kohli, the Captain of Indian Cricket Team, M.S.Dhoni, Vijay Shankar, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal.
