Myanmar Leader Finally Breaks Her Silence

The De Facto Leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi, finally addressed the nation after the attacks by the Rohingya Muslim insurgents. She said that any violations of human rights will be condemned and the ones responsible for the unrest in the Rakhine State will have to face the law.

The communal violence began in August that resulted in the death of hundreds and forced thousands of Rohingya Muslims to flee the country.

The Indian government also plans to deport the illegal Rohingya refugees for security reasons as it made its stand clear in front of the Supreme Court on Monday.

Suu Kyi started off by stating that Myanmar does not intend to be a nation that is divided by religious beliefs and ethnicities. She was quoted saying, “We don’t want Myanmar to be a nation divided by religious beliefs or ethnicities. Hate and fear are main scourges.”

She went on to say, “I believe the real responsibility lies with the people of this country. But we would like our friends to join our endeavor. We will give security to you.”

Suu Kyi justified the country and said that Myanmar is a conflicted nation and issues can not be solved overnight.

The Leader of Myanmar also stated that all the Muslims did not flee and many of the Muslim villages remain in Myanmar. She also asked the international community to come visit as proof.

In her 30 minute speech, she refused to say anything regarding what seemed as ethnic cleansing in the Rakhine State by Myanmar forces.
