Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 20th of February, left for a two day visit to South Korea.

PM Modi, on the 21st of February, reached Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The day’s schedule included bilateral meetings and business engagements with Moon Jae-in, the President of South Korea.

During the meetings, Mr. Modi will discuss about India’s strategic ties with South Korea and will have talks regarding trade and investment.

This is Prime Minister’s second visit to South Korea on the invitation of Moon Jae-in. Previously, in 2015, Modi went to the Country for a visit and had a summit meeting with Moon Jae-in.

Speaking about the purpose of the visit, Mr. Modi said, “We regard the Republic of Korea (ROK) as a valued friend, a nation with which we have a Special Strategic Partnership. As fellow democracies, India and the ROK have shared values and a shared vision for regional and global peace.”

Modi said, South Korea is an important partner of India for the latter’s initiatives like ‘Make in India,’ ‘Clean India’ and ‘Start up India’ because of the market economy of South Korea.

Confident of a tie up between the two Countries being beneficial to both of them, Mr. Modi said, the friendship will not only enhance the market economies of India and South Korea, but also encourage joint research in the field of science and technology.

Mr. Modi, on the 20th of February said, “Apart from my discussions with President Moon, I will meet with business leaders, members of the Indian community as well as eminent persons from all walks of life.”

Mr. Modi is also scheduled to unveil a sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi at Yonsei University. After the event at the University, Mr. Modi will be awarded the Seoul Peace Prize.

Later in the evening, Mr. Modi will attend a private dinner hosted by President Moon. After his private lavish dinner, Modi is expected to attend a community event.
