In a tragic incident, the Taliban launched a massive attack wiping out an entire Army base in Southern Kandahar in Afghanistan. The attack resulted in the death of 43 Afghan soldiers.

On Thursday, two suicide car bombings started a gun fight between the terrorists and the soldiers that lasted for hours.

There were 60 soldiers manning the base among them 43 were killed, nine are wounded and six are missing after the Taliban militants stormed the camp late in the night.

The Defense Ministry reported, nine of the Taliban fighters were killed at the base in Chashmo area in Maiwand district.

This is the third such attack on a security installation in the past week. On Tuesday, a horrible attack from Taliban resulted in 80 people being killed and 300 wounded in Southeast Afghanistan.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi immediately claimed responsibility for Thursday’s attack and stated 60 soldiers were killed and many wounded.

Defense ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri reported, “We think the militants used an explosive packed Humvee vehicle to detonate the gate of the base and we are looking to see if there was more than one.”

He further added, “Unfortunately there is nothing left inside the camp. They have burned down everything they found inside. We have sent a delegation to assess the situation. The base is under ANA (Afghan National Army) control.”

The United States have launched an air strike against the terrorists in response to the attack.

Afghanistan soldiers have been struggling to battle against Taliban since the U.S., and NATO forces ended their combat mission in 2014.
