Bihar - Constitution (103rd) Amendment Act 2019 To Come Into Effect

The Constitution (103rd Amendment) Act, 2019 will soon come into effect in Bihar. This Act provides 10 % reservation to the economically weaker sections (EWS) of the society under the General Category.

Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, on the 21st of January, said, “We will implement the 10 per cent reservation soon. We are taking legal opinion on it.” Mr. Kumar made the announcement official after his weekly ‘Lok Samvad’ (public interaction) programme.

After Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Bihar is the next State to implement the 10 % reservation for the EWS in the field of job recruitment and education.

Anyone with an annual income of less than Rs. 8 lakhs and 5 acres land will benefit from the law.

Prakash Javadekar, the Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, on the 15th of January, announced, at least 40,000 colleges and 900 universities in India will implement the 10 % reservation law for the EWS.

The Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill, 2019 was introduced in the Parliament by the Government of India, which was later passed by the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The bill became the Constitution (103rd Amendment) Act, 2019 after Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India, approved it.
