The Election Commission (EC) officers seized money and liquor amounting to Rs. 70.47 crores, yesterday, in Telangana.

The Income Tax (IT) officials and the police conducted searches in many regions of Telangana. The officials seized a huge amount of cash worth Rs. 70 crores, which was unaccounted for and illegal liquor worth Rs. 6.90 crores. The other items seized were gold, silver, ganja, tobacco and gutkha, worth Rs. 5.71 crores.

This is the second raid by the IT officials and the police, ahead of the Telangana polls. The EC conducted one such raid last week as well.

The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is enforced in states which will conduct elections. The poll bound states are under high scrutiny and the violation of any code included in the MCC is strictly prohibited.

The upcoming Telangana Assembly elections will be held on the 7th of December. The last date for filing nominations is the 19th of November and the results of the elections will be declared on the 11th of December.
