Three Kashmiri Students Arrested in Hyderabad

On Saturday, Hyderabad police arrested three Kashmiri students for not standing during the National anthem at Cinepolis theatre. The three students, Oman Faiz, Jameel Gul and Mudassir Shabbier have been booked under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insult to National Anthem Honor Act.

The students are originally from Baramulla in Kashmir and had come to study engineering in a private college in Chevella.

Reports revealed that the three students went to watch Bareilly ki Barfi at Cinepolis in Mantra Mall for the noon show. The Supreme Court had passed an order that the National Anthem is to be played at all movie theatres before the film is shown.

While the anthem was played at the Cinepolis theatre the three students did not stand. On behalf of the theatre management, the complaint was lodged by the police.

A news channel reported that a senior police officer was in the theatre as well and noticed the three students who did not stand. After which he alerted the Rajendra Nagar police.

The news report also added that the students were detained by the police and questioned for hours till late on Saturday night. The police let the students go after getting bail but not before they raided the student’s residence in Tolichowki. The police wanted to ensure the three students were not involved in any anti national activity.
