Vijay Rupani, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, on Sunday, declared the Constitution (103rd Amendment) Act, 2019 will come into effect in the State from today (the 14th of January.)
Gujarat is the first State in the Country to implement the Act, which provides 10 % reservation to the economically weaker sections belonging to the General Category, in the fields of higher education and government jobs.
Vijay Rupani said, “The economically weaker sections from the general category communities will get 10% reservation in admissions to higher education and government jobs starting Uttarayan on January 14.”
Mr. Rupani clarified, the process of implementing the 10 % reservation for admission to educational institutions and job recruitment will not take place if the recruitment or admission process is already underway. He said, the quota will be implemented only in those institutions or job recruitment processes where the advertisements were published before the 14th of January, but the first stage of examination or screening is yet to be held.
The Constitution (103rd Amendment) Act, 2019 came into effect in Gujarat, today, after the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, gave his approval for passing the Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill, 2019, on Saturday, thereby making the bill a law.
Mr. Rupani took to Twitter and expressed his happiness upon implementing the new Act.
Happy to state that the Government Of Gujarat has decided to implement 10% EWS reservation benefits from 14th January, 2019. It will be implemented in all ongoing recruitment process too wherein there is only Advertisement published but first stage of examination is yet to held.
