Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 21st of February, fired Kumar Ashish, one of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretaries of Uttar Pradesh.

On the 19th of February, Kumar Ashish was appointed as the AICC Secretary assigned to work with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the General Secretary of AICC Uttar Pradesh East.

The Party released a statement, on the 20th of February, which read, “Congress president Rahul Gandhi has cancelled the appointment of Kumar Ashish as AICC secretary attached with Priyanka Gandhi, general secretary for UP-East, with immediate effect (sic.)”

Though no official statement was released regarding the reason behind sacking Ashish, the Party sources said, due to his involvement in leaking a question paper in 2005, the INC chief took the decision.

Ashish was accused of leaking a question paper in Bihar and was arrested for the same.

However, he denied all the allegations and said, there was no chargesheet against him and claimed, it is a political conspiracy.

The action was also taken to avoid worsening the ongoing criticism by the political leaders of the United Janata Dal in Bihar. The Party took to social media platforms and criticised the INC regarding the appointment of Kumar Ashish.

After sacking Kumar Ashish, the INC appointed Sachin Naik as the new AICC Secretary in Uttar Pradesh.
