Anumula Revanth Reddy, a Telangana Congress leader, was arrested at his residence in Kodangal, today morning.
Police officers broke into Reddy’s house around 3 A.M., and took him into protective custody. The police arrested Mr. Reddy to prevent any protests ahead of K. Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) election rally in Kodangal.
Geeta, Reddy’s wife, was angered by the actions of the police and defended her husband by saying, “This is highly undemocratic. He has only asked the people to question the government for neglecting the constituency by the TRS government in the last four years and not implementing the promises. I appeal to the people not to indulge in any violence but to maintain peace and show their anger in the form of a vote against the TRS.”
According to sources, Revanth Reddy, with his followers, earlier protested against the police officers, who raided his house and seized Rs. 51 lakhs. Revanth Reddy also threatened to cause trouble at KCR’s rally in Kodangal.
P. Narendra Reddy, a TRS leader, lodged a complaint against Revanth Reddy and his followers, accusing them of instigating the public against the TRS and KCR. The TRS leaders fear, Revanth Reddy and his followers will cause trouble at the TRS rally, today.
The Election Commission (EC,) in order to maintain law and order, directed the police officials to take Revanth Reddy into custody. Revanth Reddy will be released from custody soon after today’s TRS rally gets over.
The Telangana Assembly will poll for 119 seats on the 7th of December and the results will be declared on the 11th of December.
