In Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, massive explosions at a high school killed 6 people and left 12 people injured, on the 19th of April, Tuesday. Occurred in Western Kabul, the incident is said to be done by the Sunni militants of the Islamic State. However, no one officially claimed responsibility for the explosions.
As per the Afghan Security and Health officials, the reason behind the terrific explosion at Abdul Rahim Shahid High School, is to target the Shia Hazara community, residing in the neighbourhood of the area. Mr. Khalid Zadran, the Spokesman of the Kabul Commander said, “Three blasts have taken place … in a high school, there are some casualties to our Shia people.”
It is to be noted that the Taliban and the Islamic State have engaged in clashes over the control of territory, mostly in eastern Afghanistan and the land of Khorasan. Notably in 2015, IS established itself in Khorasan and formed the Islamic State – Khorasan Province (IS-K.) Since then, their main objective was to occupy the land of Khorasan, which includes the country of Afghanistan. The fight for the land is a major reason behind the explosion.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan officials launched an investigation into the matter and started a rescue operation. Furthermore, the death toll is also likely to increase, as this is a developing story and further details are awaited.
