Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC) wrote to Mr. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, over the breach of security, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

In the letter dated the 28th of January, Saturday, Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge sought the intervention of the Union Home Minister to ensure adequate security for Mr. Rahul Gandhi led the Bharat Jodo Yatra.  It is to be noted, on the 27th of January, Friday, the Rahul Gandhi led Bharat Jodo Yatra entered Jammu and Kashmir, but was suspended amid an alleged security breach in the union territory.

Sharing a copy of his letter to Mr. Amit Shah, Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted, “Security lapse during Bharat Jodo Yatra led to its suspension yesterday after Rahul Gandhi’s security detail suggested same.  We are expecting a huge gathering, including leaders of important political parties at its culmination.”  In another tweet, Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge said, “My letter to @HMOIndia,Sh @AmitShah in this regard — pic.twitter.com/jjASG8C5LR.”  He further added, “We welcome their (Jammu and Kashmir Police) statement saying they will continue to ensure complete security till the culmination of the Yatra.”

The months long Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started on the 9th of September, from Kanyakumari would culminate in Srinagar, on the 30th of January.  In the span of 5 months, the Rahul Gandhi led Bharat Jodo Yatra covered Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and now entered Jammu and Kashmir.

The INC’s Bharat Jodo Yatra is an initiative taken to raise a voice against the misrule of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government.  The major issues discussed during the Bharat Jodo Yatra are the price hike of essential commodities, unemployment in India and other issues, and creating awareness amongst people in villages and districts of the Indian states.
