Mr. Rishi Sunak has become the first Indian Origin Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (U.K.)
After the resignation of Ms. Liz Truss, Mr. Rishi Sunak has been elected as the next PM of Britain, winning against other contenders.
Notably, Mr. Rishi Sunak was also a contender for the United Kingdom Prime Minister race earlier in September and lost by a margin of 20,000 votes against Ms. Liz Truss. However, after 45 days of being PM, Ms. Liz Truss resigned from her position as Britain’s PM, paving way for Mr. Rishi Sunak to contest the elections again, which he has now won.
On the win of Mr. Rishi Sunak, Mr. Narayana Murthy, the Infosys co founder and billionaire businessman and father in law of Mr. Rishi Sunak extended wishes to Mr. Rishi Sunak. In a Twitter post, Mr. Narayana Murthy said, “Congratulations to Rishi. We are proud of him and wish him success. We are confident he will do his best for the people of the United Kingdom.”
In addition, the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi also extended congratulatory wishes to Mr. Rishi Sunak. In a Twitter post, Mr. Narendra Modi said, “Warmest congratulations @RishiSunak! As you become [the] U.K. PM, I look forward to working closely together on global issues and implementing Roadmap 2030. Special Diwali wishes to the ‘living bridge’ of U.K. Indians, as we transform our historic ties into a modern partnership.”
Meanwhile, the Indian origin elected PM would take charge of the United Kingdom’s leadership at a time when the nation is facing a severe economical crisis situation. Mr. Rishi Sunak would take over as the Prime Minister of Britain, on the 25th of October. He is the youngest PM of Britain.
On the other hand, prior to Mr. Rishi Sunak’s taking over, Ms. Liz Truss, the former Prime Minister of Britain, would hold a final cabinet meeting.
