An Asiatic Lion Dies In Hyderabad’s Zoo

An Asiatic lion died in the Nehru Zoological Park of Hyderabad on Thursday. The lion, Atul, was a father to 26 cubs.

The lion, named Atul was suffering from health problems and was on intravenous fluids for a week. The post mortem report of Atul suggests he died due to senility. The reports and samples of Atul have been sent to Veterinary Biological and Research Institute (VBRI) for further investigation.

According to research, an Asiatic lion in the wild has an average lifespan of 12 to 15 years and in captivity can survive up to 18 years. Atul was born in the year 1999 and was a part of the Nehru Zoological Park.

Zoo curator Kshitija in a press release said, the 26 cubs of Atul have been sent to different zoos such as Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (Visakhapatnam,) Rajkot Zoo (Gujarat,) Alipore Zoological Park (Kolkata,) National Zoological Park (New Delhi,) Dvur Kralove Zoo (Czech Republic) and many more across the world.
