The Election Commission (EC) will, in all probability, announce the Lok Sabha elections dates during the first week of March.

The EC is the body which decides the election process in India and organises the Lok Sabha elections and the State Assembly elections.

According to the Press Trust of India (PTI,) the Lok Sabha elections dates depend on the availability of security officials and other necessary requirements for the polls.

States such as Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh are also likely to conduct their Assembly Legislative elections along with the Lok Sabha elections. Apart from these States, Jammu and Kashmir is also due to hold its Assembly elections as Satya Pal Malik, the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, dissolved the State Government, on the 28th of November, 2018.

The Lok Sabha and the State Assemblies have a term of 5 years. The State Assemblies of Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh will end their terms on the 27th of May, the 18th of June, the 11th of June and the 1st of June respectively.

The Lok Sabha will end its term on the 3rd of June 2019.
