On Tuesday, India successfully conducted a flight test of the indigenously built missile called Nirbhay. The launch happened at Chandipur along the coast of Odisha.

The missile is very strong and can carry warheads weighing up to 300 Kg. This is the fifth experimental test of the Nirbhay missile. The tests have been conducted since 2013 and this is the first successful launch of the missile.

The flight test was done with the aim to achieve mission objectives from lift off to the final splash. The scientists working on the missile were thrilled to finally succeed.

A statement from the Defence Ministry read, “The missile majestically cruised for a total duration of 50 minutes, achieving the range of 647 km. The missile was tracked with the help of ground based radars, and other parameters were monitored by indigenous stations developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO.)”

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman praised the DRDO Scientists for the successful launch. She also added that the successful trial would bring India to the select League of Nations for possessing complex technology such as this subsonic cruise missile.
