Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 19th of January 2019, addressed a public rally in Silvassa, Gujarat and criticised the ‘United India Rally.’
The United India Rally was organised by Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, and her Party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC,) on the 19th of January 2019. Political leaders across India witnessed the mega rally and attacked the Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government.
During the public rally in Silvassa, Mr. Modi said, “The reason why leaders from across the country are assembled in Kolkata today is because my actions against corruption have infuriated some people. It’s but natural for them to get angry as I’ve prevented them from looting public money. Consequently, they have now formed an alliance called Mahagathbandhan.”
Taking a dig at Mamata Banerjee, who raised slogans against the BJP saying ‘Save India, Save Democracy,’ Mr. Modi said, “Those who crushed democracy in their own state are now preaching about saving the democracy. It’s truly ironical.”
PM Modi also spoke about the achievements of the BJP in the past years and said, “The previous government was only able to build 25 lakh houses in five years. In the last 5 years, around 1.25 crore houses have been built by us. World’s largest healthcare scheme, Ayushman Bharat is being called ‘Modicare’. Under this scheme, every day around 10,000 poor are being treated.”
Modi also mocked the ruling party in West Bengal, the TMC, and said, “A one-MLA party is giving them such sleepless nights that though it is only one MLA… they are shouting bachao bachao (save us, save us.)”
Mr. Modi reached Gujarat on the 17th of January 2019. His schedule included the inauguration of several events and projects.
He inaugurated India’s first private gun factory, a howitzer gun manufacturing unit of Larsen & Toubro (L&T,) in Hazira, Surat.
