Shivakumara Swamy, the head of the Sree Siddaganga Mutt, passed away, on the 21st of January.

H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, confirmed the demise of seer Shivakumar Swamy and said, “Siddaganga Math seer Sri Shivakumara Swamiji passed away at 11.44 am today. The cremation will be done on 22nd January at 4.30 pm.”

Shivakumar Swamy, 111 years old, was suffering from prolonged illness and had contracted a lung infection after undergoing a liver bypass on the 8th of December 2018. He was being treated for the lung infection since the 3rd of January at a hospital in Chennai.

Later, he was shifted to the Siddaganga Mutt in Bengaluru, where he was on a ventilator for the past 15 days.

Seer Shivakumara Swamy was also known as Nadedaduva Devaru or the Walking God. He was also the head of the Sree Siddaganga Education Society. As a part of this Education Society, 100 educational institutions were started in Karnataka, headed by Swamyji.

The State Government declared a three day mourning period and a public holiday on the 22nd of January, following the demise of Swamyji. The body of Shivakumara Swamy will remain at the Mutt, for people to pay their last respects to him.

VIP leaders, ministers, businessmen and many other devotees rushed to the Mutt to pay their last respects to Shivakumara Swamy.

Karnataka Ministers took to Twitter and expressed grief over the death of Swamyji.
