Terrorists killed 2 Special Police Officers (SPOs) and a constable on Friday morning. The incident happened in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The terrorists kidnapped the police officers along with Fayaz Ahmad Bhat brother of a policeman from Kapran village. Fayaz Ahmad was later released by the terrorists. The bodies were identified as Firdous Ahmad Kuchay, Kuldeep Singh and Nisar Ahmad Dhobi.
According to sources, Hizbul Mujahideen, a terrorist group, spread a video in order to warn the officers. A final warning was sent by the group, asking the SPOs to quit their jobs by the 19th of September or prepare to be killed.
A few days back, three policemen and their relatives were kidnapped by terrorists in South Kashmir. The policemen’s families were released in return for the father of one of the group’s members, Riyaz Naikoo. Naikoo was held by the state’s police and was silently released in a hostage bargain. In the context of this, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief S. P. Vaid was removed from his post.
A Home Ministry official stated, “Terrorists are under pressure as they are not able to execute anything big. Protest politics and stone pelting has come down. So they are taking out their frustration by targeting policemen in their houses.”
There was another incident, involving militants, reported in the Bandipora district on Thursday. Two terrorists were shot dead in an ongoing encounter with the security forces. The news of the presence of terrorists in the area led to search operations by the Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF.)
The safety of the candidates participating in the urban local bodies’ and panchayat’s polls is considered a major concern in light of the increasing violence.The freshly appointed Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief desires to conduct the polls peacefully in the state in the month of October and November.
