The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 21st of March, announced its first list of candidates contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the names of 184 candidates, who will represent the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.


According to the list, PM Modi will contest in the Varanasi constituency, Uttar Pradesh, whereas Amit Shah, the President of the BJP, will contest in the Gandhinagar constituency, Gujarat.

Smriti Irani, the Union Minister of Textiles, will contest in the Amethi constituency against Rahul Gandhi, the President of the opposition Party, the Indian National Congress (INC.)

Out of the 184 candidates included in the list, 21 candidates will contest in Karnataka, 16 in Rajasthan, 10 in Telangana, 8 in Assam, 2 in Arunachal Pradesh, 5 in Jammu and Kashmir, 5 in Uttarakhand and 5 in Tamil Nadu.

The list was declared after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with the Central Election Committee of the BJP. The meeting was attended by Arun Jaitley, the Finance Minister of India, Rajnath Singh, the Home Minister of India, Amit Shah and Sushma Swaraj, the Minister of External Affairs.

As of now, the BJP has announced a total of 184 candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections, starting from the 11th of April and continuing till the 19th of May.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the BJP and the INC.

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May, following which, it will be decided, which of the two Parties, the INC or the BJP, will form the next Government of India.
