The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 8th of March, announced, the Party will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand.

The BJP will contest 13 Lok Sabha seats out of a total of 14 seats, whereas 1 seat will be allocated to the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU,) an ally of the BJP in the State.

According to sources, Sudesh Mahato, the President of the AJSU, will be given a Member of Parliament (MP) ticket to contest in the Ranchi constituency.

Apart from Jharkhand, the BJP announced its pre poll alliances in Punjab, Maharashtra, Bihar and Tamil Nadu.

The official announcement came after the BJP called for a Marathon Meeting of the Parliamentary Board to discuss the strategy for the Lok Sabha elections at the Delhi headquarters of the Parliamentary Board.

Bhupendra Yadav, the General Secretary of the BJP, addressed the media after the meeting and said, “In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP will contest 13 out of 14 seats in Jharkhand and All Jharkhand Union Student will fight on one seat.”

The meeting was headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by leaders such as Amit Shah, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari.

However, an official announcement regarding the BJP contesting the Jharkhand Lok Sabha elections is yet to come.

The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled between April and May 2019 and the major parties contesting are the BJP and the Indian National Congress (INC.)
