A. Md. Imtiaz, a Collector and District Election Officer, said, the 25th of March is the last day for filing nominations for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, across India.

Mr. Imtiaz said, the Returning Officers (ROs) will submit the candidates’ nomination papers by 3:00 P.M., on the 25th of March. The RO offices of all the constituencies where the elections will be held during the first phase, will be open till 3:00 P.M.

Imtiaz said, “All the candidates who report to the RO will be given tokens and nominations will be accepted accordingly. After 3 P.M., access to the RO office will be closed and none will be allowed inside.”

Approximately 20 states are contesting the Lok Sabha elections in the first phase, on the 11th of April.

Speaking about the selection process of the nominations filed, Md. Imtiaz said, the ROs are trained to scrutinise the nomination papers.

On the 26th of March, the ROs will scrutinise the nominations papers and based on their analysis, the candidates will be selected to contest the Lok Sabha elections.

After the selection, the candidates will be given two days, until the 28th of March, to withdraw from the elections.

The Lok Sabha elections will begin from the 11th of April and continue till the 19th of May.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC.)

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
