Mayawati Das, the President of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP,) on the 20th of March, announced, she will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Mayawati addressed the media and said, “I won’t contest polls. I am confident that my party will completely understand my decision. Our coalition is doing well. I can vacate a seat and contest later if I wish.”

Mayawati said, she will focus on the campaign strategies to ensure the Party’s victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Party did not announce any particular reason regarding the exit of Mayawati from the elections.

Akhilesh Yadav, the President of the Samajwadi Party (SP,) did not comment anything about her exit from the Lok Sabha elections.

Mayawati said, she wants to give a chance to fresh candidates and will completely devote herself to the campaign rallies and public meetings scheduled ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Uttar Pradesh will contest a total of 80 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are divided into 7 phases. The elections are scheduled to be held on the 11th of April, 19th of April, 23rd of April, 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and 19th of May.

The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the Indian National Congress (INC,) the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the grand alliance of the BSP and the SP.

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
