Sumalatha Ambareesh, an independent candidate, filed her nomination, on the 21st of March, to contest the Karnataka Lok Sabha elections.
Sumalatha, the wife of late actor Ambareesh, submitted her nomination papers to the Returning Officer (RO) of the Mandya constituency in Karnataka. Though Ambareesh was a member of the Indian National Congress (INC,) Sumalatha said, she will contest the Lok Sabha elections alone.
If Sumalatha clears the nominations process, she will fight against Nikhil Gowda, the son of H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Chief Minister of Karnataka and the President of the Janata Dal (Secular) [JD(S).]
Nikhil Gowda will contest on an INC ticket as a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate in the Mandya constituency.
Recently, the INC formed a pre poll alliance with the JD(S) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka.
Karnataka will contest a total of 28 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are divided into two phases. The Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka are scheduled to be held on the 18th and 23rd of April.
The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the INC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
