Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party chief, on the 18th of January 2019, appointed Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Leader.

After discussions with the Party members, Mr. Gandhi selected Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who represents the Madhira constituency of the Khammam district. The other nominations for the post were Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sabitha Indra Reddy, Sridhar Babu and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy.

The decision came after a meeting on the 17th of January, where the CLP members passed a resolution which authorised the Party President, Rahul Gandhi, to take the decision regarding who the new CLP leader will be. The meeting was attended by K.C. Venugopal, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Observer, R.C. Khuntia, the Secretary Incharge of Party Affairs in Telangana, and Rahul Gandhi.

Mr. Bhatti, who belongs to the Schedule Castes (SC) community, was the former chairman of the Publicity Committee of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC, during the 2018 Telangana Assembly elections. He represented the Congress party in the 2018 Telangana Assembly elections and won in the Madhira constituency.

The Party members and the political leaders of Telangana took to Twitter and congratulated Mr. Bhatti for his new post.
