Mizoram is conducting it’s by elections, today, since 7:00 A.M., for 40 Assembly seats.

A total of 209 candidates are contesting the Mizoram Assembly elections. Out of the 209 candidates, 40 candidates are from the Congress and the Mizo National Front (MNF) each, 39 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) 26 from other parties and 64 are independent candidates.

Approximately 7,70,395 voters are expected to vote, which includes 3,94,897 females. In order to ensure the elections are conducted peacefully, 11,100 security were deployed.

A total of 50 % voter turnout was recorded till 1:30 A.M. Women officials were given the responsibility to conduct the polling process at the polling booths set up for female voters.

The local social organisations set up benches and are providing water to the voters who are outside the polling booths, waiting for their turn.

Ashish Kundra, Mizoram’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO,) said, “A total of 209 candidates are in fray. There are 4,363 service voters in the state who have been issued electronic ballots for the first time. 3,915 specially-abled voters are there in the state. One polling station in each assembly constituency has been declared for women, as per the rules. 13,451 postal ballots have been issued so far.”

The Mizoram Assembly elections will end at 4:00 P.M., today. The results of the elections will be announced on the 11th of December.
