Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 11th of February, visited Vrindavan for a programme organised by Akshaya Patra Foundation, a non governmental organisation (NGO.)

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is based in Bengaluru and was established in the year 2000. The NGO works with the Government on the Mid Day Meal Scheme and serves lunch to approximately 1.76 million students in 14,702 schools across 12 states in India.

The NGO organised an event, on the 11th of February, at Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. The event marked the NGO feeding its three billionth meal to underprivileged and poor children.

At the event, Mr. Modi served food to the children. He also took to Twitter to speak about his visit.

He said, “I will be in Vrindavan today for a unique programme — to mark the serving of the 3rd billionth meal by the Akshaya Patra Foundation. Congratulations to all those associated with this mission. Their efforts towards eradicating hunger are exemplary.”

During his speech at the event, Mr. Modi criticised the previous Government and its schemes related to nourishment and hygienic conditions for children. He said, “Be it arrangements for child nourishment, Vaccination or cleanliness. It is not that the topics were not discussed earlier. All these aspects were discussed…several schemes were launched. But not much success was gained in the past.”

He spoke about the efforts of his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) to achieve the goal of providing clean conditions and nourishment to underprivileged children.

The political leaders present at the event were Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Hema Malini, a Member of Parliament (MP,) and Shrikant Sharma, a Cabinet Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
