Rajasthan is conducting its Assembly elections for 199 constituency seats, from 8:00 A.M., to 5:00 P.M., today.
The Rajasthan Assembly has 200 constituency seats, but due to the sudden demise of Laxman Singh, a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader, the polls in Ramgarh, Sikar, were postponed.
A total of 2,274 candidates are contesting the Rajasthan Assembly elections, out of which 189 are women candidates.
A total of 4,77,89,815 voters are expected to vote, out of which 2,49,61,569 are men, 2,28,28,024 are women and 222 belong to the third gender.
The major parties contesting the Rajasthan Elections are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the Congress Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP,) the National People’s Party (NPP) and the National Unionist Zamindara Party.
The Election Commission (EC) took measures to encourage women voters and decorated polling booths with pink and white balloons. The polling booths for women are being handled by women personnel.
According to sources, an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in Kisamidesar, Bikaner, was replaced during the polling hours, due to technical issues. The polls in Ahore constituency, Jalore, were stopped due to the malfunctioning of the EVM.
Although the EVMs are not functioning smoothly, a total of 22.02 % voters turned up to vote, till 11:00 A.M.
Vasundhara Raje (BJP,) Sachin Pilot (Congress) and Ashok Gehlot (Congress) took to Twitter and appealed to the public to vote for their respective parties.
