Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister (CM) of West Bengal (WB,) on the 19th of January, will conduct a mega rally, at the Brigade Parade Ground, West Bengal.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC,) led by Mamata Banerjee, will host the grand rally, the United India Rally, with an agenda to form a grand alliance with the opposition parties against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

Ms. Banerjee, excited about the rally, took to Twitter and welcomed all the party leaders who will be a part of the rally.

Opposition party leaders like Mayawati Das of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP,) Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party (SP,) M.K. Stalin of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK,) Sharad Yadav of the Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) and Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Communist Party will attend the rally.

At least 25 political leaders across the India will participate in the United India Rally. H.D. Deve Gowda, the chief of the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD[S],) and the former CMs of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh will attend the rally.

Akhilesh Yadav, the SP chief, said, “The country is waiting for a new Prime Minister.”

H.D. Deve Gowda, also appreciating Mamata Banerjee, said, “We have understood that Mamata Banerjee has taken all initiatives to bring all of us together.”

Other leaders like N. Chandrababu Naidu, the CM of Andhra Pradesh, H.D. Kumaraswamy, the CM of Karnataka, and Arvind Kejriwal, the CM of Delhi, will be a part of the rally. However, the Congress chief, Rahul Gandhi, will not attend the rally. Instead of Mr. Gandhi, senior leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Abhishek Manu Singhvi will represent the Congress party.

Approximately 3,000 party volunteers and Police Commissioners of West Bengal are deployed at the venue to manage a crowd of approximately 40 lakh people.

Dilip Ghosh, the State Unit Chief of the BJP, criticised the rally and said, “TMC has put up photos of leaders some of who are tired while others are retired. Is this Didi’s army? She wants to win this battle with generals who have been trounced on their own turf?” He further said, “TMC is inviting so many parties because its own leaders have lost the ability to attract crowds. Its proactive role in national politics is only to divert attention from the point that its own ship is sinking.”

The United India Rally will begin at 12 noon at the Brigade Parade Ground. After the rally, Ms. Banerjee is expected to host a tea party in the evening.

The grand rally is said to be a campaign strategy against the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled to be held between April and May 2019.
